Teachers train students to make the world kinder and fairer.”
Madelyn’s Story
Teaching Discipline
Biology
Why Biology
“I became interested in science through growing up in Ithaca, New York. Cavorting around with my high school running teammates showed me the beauty of the living world. Nothing can beat the beautiful complexity and entropy of nature.”
Professional Experience
During graduate school, Madelyn completed a two-year teaching residency in both science and special education. As both a personal and professional stakeholder in disability, she sought special education co-taught positions so she could both teach science and support students with disabilities. Last year, she co-taught sections of biology, algebra, chemistry, and Earth science.
Madelyn will begin her second year of teaching at Broome Street Academy Public Charter High School during the 2022–2023 school year.
Hobbies
Madelyn has been a lifelong collector of natural history specimens. She recently has enjoyed attempting home improvement and scale models.
