Why Biology
“I chose biology due to the relevance of its content to our everyday lives. Biology provides us with information about what makes us who we are, and what our place is in the world.”
Professional Experience
For three summers, Brian worked as lead instructor for the Fairfax Collegiate Summer Program. In this role, he instructed rising fifth through eighth graders in problem solving, geometry, exam prep, and forensic science. Brian also worked as a tutor and a substitute teacher before he decided to pursue a career in education. Brian began teaching full time at Falls Church High School during the 2015–2016 school year. In addition to his work at Falls Church, Brian teaches Hebrew/Jewish studies to first grade students.
Volunteer Experience
While studying abroad in Accra, Ghana, Brian tutored students in math and English at an after school program. During an Alternative Spring Break trip to the Nature Conservancy in Bristol, Florida, he aided in tree planting and the removal of invasive plants to make a more stable environment. Finally, during an Alternative Spring Break trip to Nicaragua, he worked with other students to build a home for a family in need.
Hobbies
Brian enjoys traveling, hiking, and participating in group fitness classes.
