There is never a dull moment when working with teenagers. I love working with students to increase their self-reliance, confidence and critical thinking skills. Nothing makes me happier than sharing in their accomplishments and seeing their faces light up when they finally understand a concept that they have been struggling with for a long time.”

Emily’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Mathematics

Why Mathematics

“Many people have a very negative and at times a fearful relationship with math. However, math can also have a lot of joy and beauty in it. I hope to show students the playful and creative side of math, so that they can learn that there is room for growth, and more to math than just right or wrong answers. My goal is to tap into the natural love of solving puzzles that almost everyone has.”

Professional Experience

Emily coached and directed an SAT prep program for underserved students in Portland, Maine for a year in college. Also she worked as a calculus tutor at Bowdoin College for a year.
