AAPT 2020 Winter Meeting

At the American Association of Physics Teachers 2020 Winter Meeting, two Knowles Fellows will deliver two presentations and one poster session. 2015 Knowles Teaching Fellow Shannon Morey and three colleagues will deliver a presentation, BiteScis: Engaging Research-based Physics Lessons Through Teacher-Researcher Partnerships, on Sunday, January 19 at 4:20 p.m. in room BC06. This presentation will describe the model Shannon and her colleagues use and present other BiteScis’ physics resources. Shannon and her colleagues also have a poster session, BiteScis Physics Lessons: Standards-Aligned Content Through Contemporary Research, Monday, January 20 from 2:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in room PST1A02. Their poster explains more about BiteScis, a nonprofit dedicated to introducing high school students to current scientific research and providing context for the content they are learning in the classroom.

Also, Knowles Senior Fellow Rosemary Wulf and two colleagues will deliver a presentation, A New Partnership-based Model for High School Physics Outreach, on Monday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. in room EA03. Their presentation will discuss the decade-plus lifespan of the University of Colorado Boulder-based Partnerships for Informal Science Education in the Community (PISEC) outreach program. PISEC has seen tremendous success and growth since its program began, and they will discuss the design and implementation of programming, and detail first research efforts, including assessment of benefits to both the local high school community and university student mentors.
